“As long as I can remember I have loved watercolor paintings and have felt the desire to paint them. I love the light and the feeling of them, especially when light hits the white of the paper. Anytime I walk into a room with paintings, I am immediately drawn to the watercolors.
“I am an outdoors person and many times when I am hiking or backpacking I will take a photograph of something just so I can paint it later; it may be something that only I can see, or it might be something off the beaten track, as I like to backpack in places that most people are unable to travel to.
“I did not start watercolor painting until I was in my mid 50’s and happened to go into a galler a few years ago that was owned by Pat James [Wind River Gallery in Tehachapi]. I talked with her a lot and she encouraged me to sign up for lessons under David Rheinhart. I only got into that class because someone else canceled.
“I have to say that without the encouragement of David Rheinhart and Pat James in the beginning, I would not be still painting today. I’m very glad I stuck with it, and very grateful to them and for the artist friends I have made along the way.”
