Spotlight on Sandi Thoman
Sandi Thoman has been part of the Tehachapi community for 15 years but she is just now joining the creative community in our little mountain town. And we are so happy to have her with us! She has recently become one of the newest members of CrossRoads Gallery and her work will be featured in the gallery in July.
Prior to moving to Tehachapi, Sandi was a busy mom in Seattle and didn’t have much time to explore her own creative side. But after moving to this area and starting to do a lot of crafting with her daughter, she discovered the joy of -- and a definite passion for -- painting.
“I especially like painting a ‘found’ object, like an antique or something that’s been forgotten,” she says. “Or unusual things, like ostrich eggs.”
Sandi also admits, “I hold on to objects sometimes for years, until I decide what would look just right for that particular piece.”
Now, she doesn’t know what she would do without discovered passion for painting things. “I find painting to be meditative; it’s stress relief and pain relief all rolled into one,” she says. “I can sit for hours and not realize that much time has elapsed. Painting has been my peace in life.”
Married for 22 years and mother of two – her married son lives in Bakersfield and her daughter is a junior at Tehachapi High School and on the golf and softball teams – Sandi also enjoys jewelry making, reading, museums, and fine art. Oh yes, she’s also an “avid football fan – Go Seahawks!”
