Since early childhood, Lynne Freeman – inspired by her mother Rosemary Booth, a lifelong oils artist who resides and paints daily at her studio in historic Alexandria, Virginia – has expressed herself by sketching, drawing and painting. Almost ten years ago, after retiring from the corporate world, Lynne happily took up her artistic pursuits on a full-time basis.
Freeman has honed her skills with extended formal study under Kathryn Roark, a well-known Las Vegas artist and, more recently, Joyce Hunter of Bear Valley Springs. Lynne Freeman the student has also become Lynne Freeman the teacher. Recently, one of her students, Cassie Yttesen, entered the 2005 All-Tehachapi Youth Art Contest (sponsored by Tehachapi Valley Arts Association) and won “Best of Show” in her age group (grades K through 8). Freeman says that she particularly enjoys “the privilege of introducing young people to art, with the hope they will, over time, find it the life changing experience I have.” In her quest for artistic expression and excellence, Lynne has outgrown her hilltop home studio in Oak Knolls and has established “Studio Bee” located on “F” Street in downtown Tehachapi.
Freeman’s paintings are on display in her studio as well as in CrossRoads Gallery, and she is a regularly featured artist at Tehachapi Art Center Gallery. Freeman loves to work alone on her art, or with other artists in her studio or anywhere else because, she says, art – especially painting – “is just a beautiful way to express one’s self creatively.”
