Spotlight on Lauraine Snelling
Ever since high school, which was a long time ago, I’ve wanted to take art classes, particularly water color painting. A few years ago I spoke at an Artist/Writer retreat and they included classes in water colors. I was in heaven.
Same the next year. Several years into this, Betty, one of the instructors said, “You know Lauraine, you love this so much. You would see more progress if you did this more than once a year.”
Hmm. You think? I saw an ad for a class by Suzan Dougall Christenson at Mel’s Tehachapi Art Center. She said that I could come and pay by the class, since I travel a lot. Walking into that class was like stepping into a brand new world.
I still take classes from Betty in Colorado any time I can. I’ve taken some with Joan Skinner and when I am home, I paint at the Olde Towne Studio on Monday nights, where Nancy and the others coach me.
An interesting thing is that when I am painting on a regular basis, my mind enjoys writing more, too. Since I write books for a living, joining the gallery has been a big step for me.
Lauraine Snelling is the author of The Red River Series, Daughters of Blessing, One Perfect Day and more
