Greg Loskorn calls his photography company Milepost Imaging, explaining, “When I decided on the name, I immediately had a vision of what I wanted: an old milepost sign on a wooden pole, with peeling painted letters, weathered by decades of wind and rain and heat in the middle of a barren desert, forlorn and lonely. After driving for most of the day along different railroads in the desert, I remembered an old and little used short line and began to follow it. It wasn’t long before I found just what I was looking for.”
As for the company itself, presenting his original photography, Greg has found a way to combine his love of nature and fascination with trains, along with his keen eye for composition, in order to capture “emotionally moving scenes,” and he’s been at it for over 20 years.
"Emotion is really is the main reason I take any picture,” he says. His goal is to freeze the image and the feelings of any particular scene. “Life is transitory and photography is a way to preserve what I see and feel for all time."
Capturing a beautiful scene is not the end of the effort for Greg, however, as he has dedicated himself to creating works of art with his photography that include more work after the image is recorded.
"I work with a master framer to design and produce an overall art package that elevates my photos beyond their original form," he says. He often uses his woodworking skills to create picture frames that are unique and rustic, allowing him to be a part of the completed work to the very end.
"Nothing that is forced ever works,” Greg notes, adding “things must be natural and flowing. Whether or not all of the pictures presented here are ‘perfect’ is up to the individual.
“But one thing is for sure, all of the photos that I present I do so for one simple reason: I am emotionally moved by them. Hopefully, you will be too."
Greg’s photography will be featured at CrossRoads Gallery in January, with a show opening on First Friday, January 7, from 5 to 8 p.m.
