A few years ago I received an invitation to study Plein Air
Oil Painting in Provence, France. It sounded great, but there
was a problem...I didn't know how to oil paint!
Although I had a strong art background, it was a background
where LINE was paramount (Graphic Design, Illustration,
Printmaking), versus the more sculptural qualities of oil
painting.
So I became a student of Tehachapi oil painter Joyce Hunter,
from whom I learned the fundamentals of oil painting. I
continued with her long after I returned from Provence, and I
still paint with the same group of her former students on a
weekly basis.
My oil paintings reflect the impressionistic style taught by
Joyce Hunter, as well as the more precise traits of my Graphic
and Apparel Design training. While nature provides the
inspiration, I also work with my spiritual/intuitive side, using
patterns of light and color to capture what is felt as well as
what is seen.

Art is what flows through me in a joyful response to everyday
epiphanies -- when beauty is discerned in the ordinary.
